Karachi: Police Officer Martyred in Ranchor Line Shooting, Sindh Home Minister Takes Notice

Karachi – A police officer was martyred after unidentified armed assailants opened fire near Jubilee Market in the Ranchor Line area of Karachi’s old city. According to police sources, the officer was stationed at Chakiwara Police Station and resided near Safora Chowk. The incident occurred when he was picking up food from a local eatery, Ghausia Biryani Center.
Eyewitnesses report that the officer had just collected a biryani parcel and was mounting his motorcycle when two armed men on a bike approached him. One of the assailants attempted to snatch his 9mm pistol. When the officer resisted, the assailants opened fire, hitting him in the shoulder and abdomen. The suspects fled the scene with the officer’s weapon, leaving him critically injured. He later succumbed to his wounds.
Police officials, including SSP City Arif Aziz and SHO Eidgah Shaur Khan Bangash, arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. The Crime Scene Unit was called in to collect evidence. Two empty 30-bore bullet shells were recovered from the scene.
According to SSP Arif Aziz, CCTV footage of the attack has been secured. The footage shows two suspects arriving on a motorcycle. One was disguised in women’s clothing or an abaya and wore joggers, while the other had his face covered with a mask and a scarf around his neck. The footage shows them approaching the officer directly before snatching his weapon and firing shots when he resisted.
Police believe the shooting could be a result of targeted killing or personal enmity, but investigations are ongoing. Additional CCTV footage from nearby locations is also being collected.
Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho and Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar have both taken serious notice of the incident. The Additional IG has requested an immediate report from the SSP City and has instructed swift action to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators. He also extended condolences to the family of the martyred officer and assured full support.
