Imran Khan Seeks Bail in 8 Cases Related to May 9 Attacks, Claims Political Victimization

Lahore: In a petition filed before the Lahore High Court, former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan has requested bail in eight cases related to the May 9, 2023, incidents, including the attack on Jinnah House. Khan’s defense team argued that he was in the custody of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on that day in Islamabad, and that the charges against him were politically motivated.
The two-member bench, comprising Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi and Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh, heard the plea. Advocate Salman Safdar, representing Imran Khan, stated that his arguments had been completed by the final hearing date.
The government lawyer argued that the records for all the cases related to May 9 were already available in the Supreme Court. However, Safdar countered that some of the bail petitions were already pending in the Supreme Court, while others had been submitted to the Lahore High Court for hearings scheduled in the coming days.
Khan’s legal team argued that the charges against him were part of a political conspiracy, intended to exact political revenge. The petition further requested the Lahore High Court to grant bail in all eight cases and order his immediate release.
The court has adjourned the hearing on the bail applications until April 17. Earlier, the Anti-Terrorism Court in Lahore had rejected Khan’s bail applications on November 27, 2023.
