First Joint Parliamentary Party Meeting of All Opposition Parties Called in Parliament

ISLAMABAD: A key meeting of all opposition parties represented in Parliament has been summoned for Monday at 6pm at Parliament House, with strong indications that the formal announcement of a united opposition alliance could be made during the session.
According to reports, the meeting will be hosted by National Assembly Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai. Opposition Leader in the Senate Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) representatives and members of the Sunni Ittehad Council are expected to attend.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser and other senior parliamentary leaders are also expected to participate.
The meeting will discuss the prevailing political and constitutional situation in the country and formulate a joint strategy to challenge the government in both the National Assembly and Senate.
According to the proposed agenda, the opposition parties will deliberate on preventing what they describe as unilateral legislation by the government and developing a coordinated parliamentary response.
The opposition is also expected to discuss presenting consensus candidates for upcoming appointments in the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Another key issue will be the establishment of a joint opposition platform to safeguard parliamentary affairs and the rights of opposition parties.
The meeting is being viewed as a significant step toward greater coordination among opposition parties and could pave the way for the formal establishment of a united opposition alliance in Parliament.
