Iran Allows Iraqi Oil Tankers Special Passage Through Strait of Hormuz

Iran has granted special permission to several Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz following repeated diplomatic requests from Baghdad.

According to Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency, the issue of granting special passage to Iraqi oil tankers was among the key requests raised by Iraq during Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf’s recent visit to the country.

The Iraqi president also confirmed that Iran had facilitated the passage of some vessels carrying Iraqi oil through the Strait of Hormuz in recent days, expressing gratitude for the move.

However, he said the situation in the Strait of Hormuz remained complicated. Maritime traffic is still significantly below pre-war levels, while the threat of attacks on ships in the area remains.

Iraq has been among the countries hardest hit by the closure of the strategic waterway. Before the war, Iraq produced around four million barrels of oil per day, but the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has severely disrupted its oil exports.
