Report Claims Iranian Oil Tankers Changed Course Toward Karachi Amid Rising US-Iran Tensions

ISLAMABAD: Two Iranian oil tankers carrying nearly one million barrels of crude oil reportedly changed their course toward Karachi Port amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, according to recent media reports.
Journalist Mansoor Ali Khan, citing a report by Bloomberg in his vlog, claimed that the vessels may be seeking a temporary safe location to avoid potential risks associated with possible U.S. military or political actions in the region.
According to the report, the two tankers unexpectedly updated their destination to Pakistan after altering their original routes. Observers believe the move suggests that the vessels may prefer to remain near a secure port until the geopolitical situation becomes clearer rather than continuing their voyage in open waters.
Global ship-tracking platforms have indicated that the tankers are unlikely to unload their crude oil in Pakistan. Analysts note that accepting Iranian crude cargo could expose Pakistan to the risk of U.S. sanctions, making an actual oil transfer at Karachi Port highly improbable.

Reports further stated that Iranian vessels have, on previous occasions, remained near Pakistani ports under various circumstances, suggesting that such movements are not entirely unprecedented.
Separately, senior analyst Javed Chaudhry said in a podcast that there currently appears to be no effective mediator capable of reducing tensions between the United States and Iran. He added that Pakistan-Iran relations are not as close as they once were, with certain diplomatic developments contributing to a degree of distance between the two countries.
Javed Chaudhry also observed that discussions are underway within Iran regarding shifts in the balance of power between political and military institutions, developments that could have significant implications not only for Iran but for the broader Middle East region.
The reports regarding the Iranian oil tankers’ destination have not been officially confirmed by Pakistani authorities or the governments involved.
