PM’s Aide Claims He Ate a Full Meal for Rs128, Sparking Debate on Social Media

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Huzaifa Rehman has triggered widespread debate after claiming that he purchased a complete meal for Rs128, despite ongoing concerns over rising inflation in Pakistan.
Speaking during a television program, Huzaifa Rehman dismissed claims about soaring food prices and said he had ordered a meal costing only Rs128, which included two rotis for Rs28, curry worth Rs100, half a serving of Coca-Cola, raita, and salad.

He explained that he gave an office employee Rs28 to buy two rotis and Rs100 for the curry, adding that the meal also included a small portion of raita, salad, and half a glass of soft drink.
His remarks quickly drew mixed reactions on social media, with many users questioning the accuracy of the prices. Critics argued that, given the current cost of living, a single roti is commonly priced between Rs20 and Rs30, while a serving of curry at an ordinary restaurant generally costs Rs200 to Rs350 or more, making the claimed meal price appear unrealistic.

Journalist Ejaz Cheema criticized the statement, saying it reflected a lack of awareness about prevailing market prices. He noted that the officially notified price of a roti in many areas is around Rs20, making it difficult to understand how two rotis could be purchased for Rs28. He also questioned the claim about receiving half a serving of a soft drink, suggesting that the official should disclose the restaurant’s location if such prices were genuinely available.

Political analyst Isar Rana also mocked the claim on social media, posting a sarcastic comment questioning how such an inexpensive meal was possible under current market conditions.
The remarks have fueled fresh public discussion over the rising cost of food and the gap between official statements and the everyday experiences of consumers across the country.
