Houthis Claim Ballistic Missile Attack on Saudi Arabia’s Asir Region; Saudi Air Defenses Intercept Missiles

RIYADH: Yemen’s Houthi movement claimed responsibility for a ballistic missile attack targeting an airbase in Saudi Arabia’s Asir region, while Saudi-led coalition forces said the missiles were intercepted and destroyed before reaching their target.
According to international media reports, the attack targeted a military airbase in Asir. Saudi coalition spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki said the Houthis launched ballistic missiles toward southern Saudi Arabia, but the Kingdom’s air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed them in mid-air.
The Houthis claimed they had struck a military airbase in the Asir region. However, Saudi authorities did not confirm any damage or casualties resulting from the attempted attack.
The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions following recent attacks on Sanaa International Airport, which the Houthis blamed on Saudi Arabia. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree had earlier threatened to target Saudi airports, ports, and oil facilities, raising concerns over a further escalation of the conflict.
Meanwhile, regional tensions have continued to intensify following recent military exchanges involving Iran and the United States. According to media reports, Iran claimed to have targeted U.S. military positions in Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait after U.S. airstrikes, while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had struck command-and-control facilities, drone hangars, radar installations, and rocket launch systems used by U.S. and allied forces.
Separately, Qatar’s Ministry of Transport issued a temporary advisory instructing ship owners and operators of recreational boats, fishing vessels, and jet skis to suspend maritime activities, while vessels operating under international maritime conventions were exempt in accordance with applicable regulations.
