Fazlur Rehman Urges Pragmatic Approach to Kashmir Issue, Calls for Strategic Decision-Making

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has stressed the need to address the Kashmir issue with wisdom and strategic thinking rather than emotion.
Speaking alongside Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman in Islamabad, Fazlur Rehman thanked the Jamaat leader for visiting him and discussed recent developments concerning Kashmir.
The JUI-F chief said that Mashal Malik was the first to contact him regarding the issue and praised Yasin Malik for dedicating his life to the cause of Kashmir’s freedom.
He said that the people of Kashmir have always carried out their movements under the Pakistani flag and that the martyrs of the Kashmir movement are buried wrapped in Pakistan’s national flag. He emphasized that the issue requires a thoughtful and well-planned strategy instead of an emotional response.
Fazlur Rehman revealed that a large delegation of Kashmiri leaders had met him and presented a letter from the Joint Action Committee. He said he had expressed his willingness to cooperate and requested some time while advising the committee to postpone its planned sit-in. However, the protest continued, and no further progress was made afterward.
He added that he had already raised the matter in the National Assembly and noted that the government is currently engaged in consultations. He urged all stakeholders to wait for the government’s decisions before taking further action.
Commenting on regional developments, Fazlur Rehman said India had presented Pakistan as an aggressive state at international forums and stressed that Islamabad should respond to such allegations effectively through diplomatic and strategic means.
