Student Files Petition Against NADRA Officials for Denial of ID Card

Karachi: A student from Orangi Town has filed a petition in the Sindh High Court against officials of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) for refusing to issue her a national identity card.
In the petition filed through advocate Usman Farooq, it was stated that the student’s father was murdered in 2017. The student’s mother is currently out on bail after being charged in connection with her husband’s murder but is not cooperating in the process of obtaining the ID card.
The petition argues that NADRA officials are not issuing identity cards without parental consent. However, it is claimed that NADRA has the authority to issue ID cards based on the biometrics of other relatives. The lack of an ID card is adversely affecting the girl’s education; she has completed her intermediate studies but is unable to enroll in a graduate program without it.
