Michael Vaughan Criticizes ECB Over Jofra Archer’s Continued Participation in IPL

Former England Cricket Team captain Michael Vaughan has strongly criticized the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for allowing fast bowler Jofra Archer to continue playing in the Indian Premier League instead of preparing for England’s upcoming Test series.

Speaking during a television program, Vaughan questioned the ECB’s decision not to include Archer in the squad for the first Test against New Zealand Cricket Team.

He said the ECB had informed that Archer would continue participating in the IPL and therefore would not be available for the opening Test match.

Vaughan expressed concern that England’s important Test series was approaching while Archer remained in India, adding that it appeared there was some form of understanding between the ECB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which allowed certain players to continue in the IPL.

The former England captain also questioned whether centrally contracted players should be allowed to prioritize franchise cricket over national duty. He noted that the ECB had supported Archer for years through central contracts and therefore representing England should remain the top priority.

Vaughan further stated that while franchise cricket is financially and professionally beneficial for players, Test cricket should not be pushed behind domestic T20 leagues. He added that if England wants its players to participate in the IPL, then the cricket schedule should be arranged in a way that avoids clashes with international series.

The first Test between England and New Zealand is scheduled to begin on June 4.
