Traders Accuse Police of Misconduct During Smart Lockdown Enforcement in Quetta

QUETTA: Traders and residents in Quetta have accused police personnel of misconduct and discriminatory treatment during the enforcement of the smart lockdown, particularly within the jurisdiction of Jinnah Town Police Station.

According to local traders, some police officials have allegedly been using the lockdown measures as a pretext to harass shopkeepers and citizens by forcing selective business closures, using abusive language, and threatening arrests.

Business owners claimed that the lockdown rules are not being implemented equally across the city. They alleged that some shops are ordered to close early while businesses owned by influential individuals remain open until late at night without facing any action.

“When we ask why other shops are still operating, the police tell us, ‘That is none of your concern,’” several traders complained, adding that such behavior has caused frustration and mental stress within the business community.

Residents also criticized the alleged unprofessional attitude of officials at Jinnah Town Police Station, claiming that elderly citizens, shopkeepers, and ordinary people are frequently subjected to rude behavior, verbal abuse, and intimidation over minor issues.

The traders emphasized that they support government directives and the implementation of the law, but stressed that regulations should be applied equally to everyone without favoritism or discrimination.

Affected traders and citizens have appealed to senior police authorities, including the DIG Quetta and SSP Operations, to take immediate notice of the situation, ensure fair implementation of smart lockdown policies, and initiate departmental action against officials accused of inappropriate conduct.
