New Twist in Quetta Honour Killing Case as Victim’s Alleged Mother Defends Act in Video Statement

Quetta – In a shocking development in the honour killing case of a woman named Bano in the outskirts of Quetta’s Dagari area, a video statement has surfaced allegedly from her mother, Gul Jan, who has justified the murder, calling it an act in line with “Baloch traditions and honour.”
In the video, Gul Jan claims her daughter Bano was not a young girl but a mother of five children: Noor Ahmed (18), Wasid (14), Fatima (12), Siddiqa (9), and Zakir (6). She stated, “As a Baloch, no mother can accept that her daughter would abandon her children and run away with someone else. When that happened, we had to act according to honour.”
Gul Jan alleges that Bano eloped with a man named Ehsanullah and remained with him for 25 days. Ehsanullah, she claimed, lived near their house and had previously threatened her sons multiple times, sending them controversial videos. She also claimed her son, Jalal, received death threats from him.
Admitting that Bano was killed, Gul Jan stated, “What we did was not under any jirga or court order. We acted purely out of honour and in accordance with Baloch customs.”
She further appealed directly to Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, demanding the release of their tribal leaders and elders who have been detained in connection with the case. “Our homes are being raided, our men are missing. We want justice – we have done nothing wrong,” she claimed.
The video has sparked widespread concern over the normalization of honour killings under cultural pretexts and raised serious questions about justice and protection for women in tribal regions. Human rights activists have condemned the incident and called for immediate legal action.
