Balochistan Assembly: Talks Within Constitutional Limits, Action Against Anti-State Elements, Says Home Minister Ziaullah Langove

Quetta (News Desk) — A heated debate was held in the Balochistan Assembly session over the province’s law and order situation, terrorism, kidnappings, customs warehouse fire incident at Lak Pass, development funds, and cross-border trade issues. The session, chaired by Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, began with a delay of one hour and ten minutes.

At the outset, prayers were offered for the four security personnel martyred in Barkhan. Speaker Achakzai noted that law and order remains a major challenge in the province.

Provincial Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove informed the House that the government has provided security—six guards to each Member of the Provincial Assembly and eight to ministers—while security forces continue operations against terrorists. He stated that the government is open to dialogue with those who remain within the constitutional framework of Pakistan, but strict action will be taken against anyone advocating separatism or the breakup of the country.

Opposition and government members both expressed serious concern over the deteriorating security situation. MPA Sardar Sadiq Umrani warned that conditions in the province resemble a civil war-like situation, with rising insecurity and extortion affecting both lawmakers and citizens.

Former Chief Minister Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch said Balochistan has remained in a conflict-like state for two decades and stressed that dialogue, not force, is the only viable solution. He also strongly condemned the kidnapping of the Vice Chancellor and Pro Vice Chancellor of Gwadar University.

The issue of the fire at the Lak Pass customs warehouse was also discussed. MPAs Asghar Tareen and Rehmat Saleh Baloch alleged that the incident was not accidental but deliberate, resulting in billions of rupees worth of traders’ goods being destroyed. The Speaker directed the Chief Secretary to form a commission to investigate the incident and submit a report within 30 days. He also ordered a briefing from the senior customs collector.

During the session, Education Minister Raheela Hameed Durrani staged a symbolic walkout over not being allowed to speak on a point of order, later returning to the House.

Separately, development funds for constituency PB-29 Pishin were raised by MPA Asad Baloch, who claimed non-compliance with High Court orders regarding fund release. The matter was later disposed of after government clarification.

Another issue was raised by MPA Maulvi Noorullah regarding land allotment for mining in Qila Saifullah, expressing concerns over the rights of local mine owners. The government provided details, after which the matter was also settled.

Jamaat-e-Islami MPA Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman Baloch presented a resolution calling for basic facilities at the Gabad border, noting that despite generating billions in tax revenue, the area lacks water, electricity, roads, and internet services. The Assembly unanimously approved the resolution.

A separate resolution submitted by MPA Ghazala Gola, calling for vocational, technical, and professional education facilities for women across all divisional headquarters of Balochistan, was also passed.

The session concluded after the Speaker read out the Governor’s prorogation order, and the Assembly was adjourned indefinitely.
