Balochistan Launches Modern Agriculture Initiative; Hydroponics Project Approved for 10 Districts, Gwadar Dams Reserved for Drinking Water – CM Sarfaraz Bugti’s Key Decisions

Quetta: Under the leadership of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, a crucial parliamentary committee meeting on the Provincial PSDP was held, resulting in significant decisions regarding the province’s agricultural future. The meeting approved the establishment of hydroponics (soil-less farming) facilities and a horticulture promotion project. Initially, the hydroponics project will be launched in 10 districts, with plans for phased expansion to other districts based on its success.

Addressing the meeting, CM Sarfaraz Bugti emphasized that maximizing yield with minimal water is the foundation of modern agriculture, and the promotion of advanced agricultural technologies remains a top priority for the provincial government. He added that the hydroponics initiative will open new economic opportunities for farmers and highlighted the critical role of irrigation and dam projects in securing the province’s agricultural future.

During the briefing on ongoing irrigation projects, the Chief Minister expressed concern over the situation in Gwadar, where prolonged drought has created severe water shortages. He directed that dams under construction in Gwadar be used exclusively for drinking water purposes and instructed authorities to accelerate work on these projects.

The meeting was attended by provincial ministers Mir Shoaib Noshirowani, Noor Muhammad Damar, Engineer Zmarak Khan, Haji Ali Madad Jatak, and Mir Abdul Majeed Badini, while Mir Sadiq Umrani and Mir Ali Hassan Zehri joined via video link.
