ISLAMABAD: A delegation of the International Monetary Fund (International Monetary Fund) is set to arrive in Pakistan today to begin discussions on the upcoming federal budget, with formal negotiations scheduled to start tomorrow.
According to sources in the Ministry of Finance, the visit is part of preparations for drafting the new federal budget in consultation with the IMF. The proposed budget will be formulated in coordination with the global lender to ensure alignment with fiscal targets and economic reforms.
Officials said the talks are expected to continue for about a week, after which final recommendations for the budget will be prepared.
During the discussions, both sides will focus on key economic areas including tax policy, revenue targets, and overall macroeconomic planning. Development expenditures and budgetary allocations are also expected to be reviewed in detail.
The IMF delegation is also likely to discuss measures aimed at strengthening fiscal discipline, improving government spending efficiency, and ensuring better coordination between expenditure and revenue frameworks.
Authorities say the engagement is part of ongoing efforts to stabilize Pakistan’s economy and maintain compliance with IMF-supported reform programs.
