Inflation Spirals Out of Control as Chicken and Egg Prices Surge Across Pakistan

Islamabad: Rising inflation has once again added to the difficulties of citizens as essential food items continue to become more expensive, with a sharp increase recorded in the prices of chicken meat and eggs.
According to market sources, broiler chicken prices have been rising consistently over the past week. Following an increase of Rs7, the price of broiler meat has reached Rs540 per kilogram. Overall, prices have increased by Rs36 to Rs50 per kilogram in different cities within a week, making chicken unaffordable for many middle-class households.
Similarly, live broiler chicken prices have also increased. The farm rate has reached Rs345 per kilogram, the wholesale rate stands at Rs359, while the retail price has climbed to Rs373 per kilogram. This continuous fluctuation has created instability in the market.
On the other hand, farm eggs have also become more expensive, with prices reaching Rs246 per dozen, further increasing the burden on households. Citizens say that vegetables, pulses, and other essential items were already expensive, and now chicken and eggs are also becoming out of reach for the common man.
Experts attribute the rise in prices to disruptions in the supply chain, increased feed costs, and overall inflationary pressure. They warn that without immediate government intervention, food prices may rise further in the coming days, worsening public hardship.
Consumers have urged the government to take practical steps to control prices and provide relief to the general public so that daily life becomes more manageable.
