Maulana Fazlur Rehman Offers to Mediate Talks Between Government and PTI

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has offered to mediate negotiations between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) amid heightened political tensions surrounding the PTI long march.

According to media reports citing sources, following a meeting with a government delegation, Maulana Fazlur Rehman contacted the PTI leadership by telephone and conveyed the government’s offer and proposals to the opposition party.

Following the development, PTI has reportedly convened an emergency meeting, with senior party leaders discussing the situation and deliberating on the future course of action.

Sources said Maulana Fazlur Rehman had earlier advised the government to resolve political issues through dialogue and mutual understanding instead of imposing governor’s rule or an emergency in the country.

Following his advice, the government approached the JUI-F chief and formally requested him to play a role in easing the political tensions.

A government delegation had met Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence a day earlier. The delegation included Federal Adviser for Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Federal Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry.

The meeting focused on ways to reduce the prevailing political tensions and explore possibilities for dialogue between the government and PTI.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s latest initiative comes as political activities have intensified in the wake of the PTI long march, with efforts underway to prevent further escalation and find a negotiated solution.
