PAC Unearths Irregularities Worth Billions in BMC Hospital Audit, Expresses Anger Over Health Department’s Non-Compliance

Quetta: A meeting of the Public Accounts Committee was held under the chairmanship of Chairman Asghar Ali Tareen, where serious financial and administrative irregularities worth billions of rupees were revealed in the audit of Bolan Medical Complex Hospital.
The meeting was attended by committee members including Ghulam Dastgir Badini, Rehmat Saleh Baloch, Safia Bibi, Wali Muhammad Nurzai, Khair Jan Baloch, Secretary Assembly Tahir Shah Kakakhel, and senior officials from the Health Department.
During the session, it was revealed that the hospital administration repeatedly failed to provide audit records despite multiple requests from auditors. Officials stated that the institution is still operating under an outdated system and claimed that records would be completed by June 2026.
The audit report highlighted serious financial and administrative irregularities, including alleged corruption in drug procurement, under-recovery of government revenues, non-transparent payments, and violations of rules and regulations.
It further revealed that critical medical equipment such as CT scan machines, angiography units, and oxygen gas plants remain non-functional. The report also pointed out that drug testing and physical verification of hospital stores have not been completed.
Chairman PAC expressed strong displeasure over the lack of cooperation from the Health Department, stating that the committee has successfully recovered records in multiple cases over the past year and will ensure recovery in this matter as well.
The committee directed that record verification be completed within 10 days in coordination with audit officials and ordered strict legal action under relevant accountability laws against those found responsible.
It further warned that officials concerned will be held directly accountable in the next meeting, emphasizing that no one is above accountability.
