First Kidney Transplant Under Balochistan Health Card Successfully Performed at BINUQ

Quetta: Balochistan has achieved a major milestone in its healthcare sector with the successful completion of the first kidney transplant under the Balochistan Health Card Program at the Balochistan Institute of Nephro-Urology Quetta (BINUQ).

The landmark procedure was carried out under the supervision of Balochistan Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar, Health Secretary Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, and BINUQ Chief Executive Abdul Razzaq Nasir.

In an inspiring act of maternal sacrifice, 56-year-old Razia, a resident of Quetta, donated one of her kidneys to her 24-year-old son, Muhammad Siraj. Hospital officials said both the donor and recipient are in satisfactory condition and recovering well following the successful transplant.

The surgery was performed by a multidisciplinary team of specialists at BINUQ. The urology team was led by Dr. Asad Langove, Head of the Urology Department, with support from Dr. Hayat Kakar, Dr. Shaukat Ali, Dr. Maqbool Jabbar, Dr. Ahmadullah, Dr. Rashid, and Dr. Asfand Yar.

The nephrology team was headed by Professor Dr. Irfana Hassan, assisted by Dr. Nadia, Dr. Umar Baig, Dr. Taha, and Dr. Sadia. The anesthesia department, led by Muhammad Yahya and Dr. Mola Bakhsh, along with other surgeons and physicians, also played a key role in the operation.

Specialists from the pathology and radiology departments, including Dr. Ghaffar, Dr. Anwar, Dr. Chandi Kapoor, Dr. Ejaz, Dr. Zahoor, and Dr. Saleem, also contributed to the success of the procedure.

BINUQ described the transplant as a historic achievement for the institution and said the introduction of kidney transplant services under the Balochistan Health Card Program offers new hope to patients suffering from kidney disease across the province.

The hospital administration credited the success to the dedication, teamwork, and professional expertise of its doctors, nurses, paramedics, and support staff, adding that both mother and son are recovering steadily.
