Major Corruption Allegations Surface in Sindh Education Boards Probe

Karachi: Fresh revelations have emerged during the investigation of the arrested Controller of the Mirpurkhas Board, with anti-corruption authorities alleging large-scale financial irregularities involving multiple education boards in Sindh.
According to anti-corruption notices, approximately Rs200 million (20 crore) was allegedly paid as bribes from various educational boards to the Sindh Universities and Boards Department within a short period. The funds were reportedly used to manipulate exam results, tamper with academic and administrative records, and influence transfers and postings.
Authorities claim that the money was routed through a former deputy secretary, Farhan Akhtar, and delivered to senior officials in the Universities and Boards Department.
The breakdown of alleged payments includes Rs70 million from Karachi’s matric and intermediate boards, Rs40 million from Sukkur Board, Rs40 million from Hyderabad Board, and Rs50 million from Shaheed Benazirabad (Nawabshah) Board.
As part of the inquiry, notices have been issued to key officials, including the Secretary and Chairman of the Karachi Matric Board, the Chairman of the Karachi Intermediate Board, Sukkur Board Chairman Zahid Ali Channar, and Nawabshah Board Chairman Asif Memon.
Notices have also been served to former Deputy Secretary Farhan Akhtar, the Secretary of Nawabshah Board, Section Officer Muhammad Zubair Katbar, and controllers of Sukkur, Larkana, and Hyderabad boards. Additionally, anti-corruption authorities have summoned three former chairmen of the Mirpurkhas Board and the personal secretary of the relevant minister.
In one cited case, a pre-medical student from Nawabshah Board allegedly received two separate mark sheets, with scores changing from 362 out of 500 to 497 marks.
Meanwhile, records have already been sought from Secretary Universities and Boards Abbas Baloch, a Grade-20 officer, who has reportedly not appeared before the inquiry officer, citing rank-related protocol concerns.
The investigation is ongoing, with officials indicating that further action will be taken based on the findings.
