President Zardari, PM Shehbaz Stress Responsible Journalism on World Press Freedom Day

Islamabad:** President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have emphasized the need for responsible journalism and the prevention of fake news on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day.
In his message, Shehbaz Sharif said that stopping propaganda, fake news, and the spread of unverified information is the duty of every journalist. He noted that in the modern era, peace and stability are not achieved through diplomacy alone, but also through accurate information and responsible reporting.
The prime minister added that Pakistan prioritizes dialogue and negotiations to resolve tensions and is playing a constructive role in promoting regional peace. He praised the national media for its role in presenting Pakistan’s stance responsibly and maintaining public awareness during critical moments.
He further highlighted that digital platforms play a significant role in shaping both domestic and global public opinion, warning that disinformation and organized misinformation campaigns pose serious threats to national harmony and international credibility. He urged journalists to uphold the highest standards of verification, integrity, and professionalism.
Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari said that peace is not possible without truth and that journalism plays a vital role in this regard. He warned that disinformation is distorting democratic discourse and noted that journalists worldwide face harassment and pressure.
The president also expressed concern over the irresponsible use of social media platforms, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to press freedom. He stated that Article 19 of the Constitution guarantees freedom of expression and that a free media is essential for accountability and transparency.
Paying tribute to journalists who have sacrificed their lives, Zardari called for ensuring a safe environment for media professionals. He stressed that accuracy must be prioritized over speed and urged the public to reject falsehood and support truth, adding that a strong information system is essential for peace and stability.
