Punjab Education Department Proposes Early Summer Vacation from June 1 Amidst Expected Heatwave

LAHORE:The **Punjab School Education Department** has sent a proposal to the **Chief Minister** to begin the **summer vacations** from **June 1**, in anticipation of a **severe heatwave**. According to reports, the department has submitted a summary regarding the proposal to the Chief Minister of Punjab.

**Secretary Education** **Khaleed Nazir Watoo** stated that, given the predicted heatwave, the summer holidays might begin earlier than usual. However, the final decision will be made by the **Chief Minister**.

Earlier this month, the **Punjab government** had already taken measures to mitigate the effects of the rising temperatures by reducing school hours by **30 minutes**. This adjustment, effective from **April 7**, will remain in place until **October 15**. Schools now open at **7:30 AM**, with changes also made to the dismissal times for schools operating in **two shifts**.

Despite these adjustments, many parents remain concerned about sending their children to school in such intense heat and have urged the government to **bring forward the summer vacations**.

Teachers are also voicing similar concerns, stressing that the **uncertainty regarding the holiday schedule** is causing disruptions in **academic planning** and making it difficult to complete the curriculum on time.

As the summer months approach, the government is expected to make a final decision soon regarding the early start of the summer holidays to ensure the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and staff in the face of the looming heatwave.
