Final Decision to Demolish Historic Balochistan Assembly Building for Reconstruction, Tender to Open on May 7; Petition Filed in High Court

Quetta – The Balochistan government has taken a final decision to demolish the historic building of the Balochistan Assembly and construct a new structure, following a report declaring the existing building non-expandable.
According to the Communications and Works Department, a technical committee comprising experts concluded that the current assembly building cannot be expanded, leading to a consensus decision between Chief Minister Balochistan Sarfraz Bugti, Speaker Balochistan Assembly Captain (R) Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, and the opposition leader to rebuild the structure.
Officials said that a tender has been issued for the demolition process, which will be opened on May 7. The tender notice has already been published in newspapers.
The department further stated that the estimated cost of the new assembly building is around Rs. 5 billion, which has reportedly been provided by the federal government. The construction is expected to be completed within one year, during which assembly sessions will be held in the committee room hall.
Meanwhile, a constitutional petition has been filed in the Balochistan High Court against the demolition of the historic assembly building. Former President of the Supreme Court Bar Association Amanullah Kanrani has requested an urgent hearing of his petition before the tender opening date.
The petition states that the case should be heard before May 7, 2026, and has been scheduled for hearing on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, by Bench No. 1 of the Balochistan High Court.
