Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Makes History as First Transgender Jail Wardens Appointed

Peshawar: For the first time in the history of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, two transgender individuals have been appointed as jail wardens, marking a significant step toward inclusivity in the provincial prison system.
According to the Superintendent of the Jail, the appointments have been made as part of efforts to provide equal employment opportunities to the transgender community in government institutions.
The newly appointed wardens, identified as Sobia Khan and Zohaib, will assume their official duties at the Central Jail starting next week.
The jail administration confirmed that both appointees have been formally inducted and will serve in supervisory roles within the prison system.
Officials said the move reflects a progressive approach by the provincial authorities and aims to integrate marginalized communities into mainstream public service roles.
The appointments have been widely noted as a historic development in the province’s administrative and social inclusion framework.
