Ayaz Sadiq Claims Pakistan Played Key Role in Sustaining US-Iran Talks

Lahore: Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has claimed that Pakistan played a crucial behind-the-scenes role in maintaining dialogue between the United States and Iran during tense negotiations.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, Sadiq said that during talks between United States and Iran, delegations from both sides would often walk out following heated exchanges. However, he stated that Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir would bring them back to the negotiating table.

Sadiq highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in promoting a ceasefire and facilitating dialogue, noting that Islamabad was among the first countries to oppose any escalation into war. He added that despite challenges, Pakistan continued to push for peaceful resolution.

The National Assembly speaker praised the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, crediting them along with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for focusing on development and governance.

Commenting on domestic progress, Sadiq said that significant funds had been allocated for infrastructure projects in Punjab and expressed optimism that road development across the province would be completed by the end of the year.

He also reflected on political developments since 2022, stating that difficult decisions taken by the coalition government helped stabilize the country during a period of economic hardship and inflation. He termed the appointment of the new military leadership as a positive step that contributed to national stability.

Sadiq further claimed that Pakistan’s efforts helped prevent a larger conflict, describing the situation as comparable to averting a major global crisis. He added that international leaders had acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting peace.

The speaker emphasized that despite political differences, his party has always supported national institutions and prioritized Pakistan’s interests. He reiterated that constructive diplomacy and unity among leadership were key to enhancing the country’s global standing.
