Karachi Court Sentences Man to 10 Years in Prison for Rape Under False Promise of Marriage

Karachi: An Additional District and Sessions Court in Karachi South has sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman under the pretext of marriage.
The court found the accused, identified as Osama Waderia, guilty of the crime and also imposed a fine of Rs50,000. The verdict was delivered via video link.
According to the victim’s statement, the accused was known to her and lured her to a guest house in the DHA area on the promise of marriage. She alleged that he then assaulted her at knifepoint.
During the trial, the defense argued that the complainant had given inconsistent statements and had demanded Rs5 million as Haq Mehr. However, the court ruled that the victim’s testimony was credible and consistent with the evidence.
The judgment stated that the prosecution successfully proved its case based on DNA evidence, medical reports, and witness testimonies.
The case against the accused was registered in November 2024 at Darakhshan Police Station, and legal proceedings continued until the conviction was secured.
