18-Year-Old Girl Killed in Suspected Honour Killing in Khairpur; Minister Takes Notice

Khairpur: An 18-year-old girl was allegedly shot dead in a suspected honour killing in Khairpur, prompting swift action from authorities and strong condemnation from officials.
According to reports, the victim, identified as Rubina, was gunned down in public in the Tando Masti area. Police said her maternal uncle and cousin were involved in the killing, allegedly carried out in the name of “honour.”
Following the incident, Shaheena Sher Ali, Sindh’s Minister for Women Development, took immediate notice after a video of the घटना went viral on social media.
Law enforcement authorities confirmed that two suspects have been arrested, including the main accused, who was taken into custody along with the weapon used in the crime. Investigations into the motive behind the killing are ongoing.
The provincial minister strongly condemned the incident, calling it a brutal and unacceptable act. She also expressed concern over the inaction of bystanders present at the scene.
Shaheena Sher Ali has sought a detailed report from the DIG Sukkur and directed that those involved be dealt with strictly, emphasizing that the perpetrators deserve no leniency.
She further highlighted that the Sindh government has established safe houses and shelters (Dar-ul-Aman) to protect women, urging victims of domestic or gender-based violence to seek help through the Women Development Department’s helpline (1094) or relevant offices.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage among social circles, amid growing concerns over rising cases of honour-based violence in the province.
