NDMA Issues Nationwide Alert for Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain and Snowfall

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide weather alert warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain, strong winds, and snowfall in various parts of the country over the next 12 to 24 hours.
According to the National Emergencies Operation Center, a strong westerly weather system is expected to affect most regions, bringing gusty winds, dust storms, and rainfall. Snowfall is also likely in the upper and mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In Punjab, Balochistan, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds, dust storms, and possible hailstorms are expected. Cities including Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Multan, and Bahawalpur are likely to experience rain and gusty winds.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, areas such as Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Abbottabad, Mardan, and Kohat are also expected to receive rainfall with strong winds.
Similarly, rain is forecast in Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Pishin, and Chaman in Balochistan.
The NDMA has warned that strong winds, lightning, and hailstorms may damage weak structures, trees, and electricity lines. Rain may also make roads slippery, affecting traffic flow, while snowfall in mountainous areas could disrupt travel and increase the risk of landslides.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, drive carefully, and follow safety instructions. Tourists planning to visit northern areas are urged to check weather and road conditions in advance and stay updated through the official NDMA mobile application for timely alerts.
