Alarming Rise in Cancer Cases in Balochistan: Over 12,000 New Patients Reported This Year

Quetta, Balochistan:Cancer cases in Balochistan have surged to **over 12,000 new patients** this year, raising serious concerns among health authorities and experts.
The **Atomic Energy Cancer Hospital, Sinar**, has reported **OPD visits exceeding 22,000**, reflecting the increasing burden on healthcare facilities. Cases among **young individuals** are also rising. In 2024, nearly **10,000 cases** were registered, which has now jumped to **12,000**, indicating a sharp year-on-year increase.
Health specialists warn that **breast cancer** is increasingly being detected in younger girls, while rising cases of **esophageal, stomach, small and large intestine cancers** have further intensified concern.
Experts attribute the surge in cancer cases to **unhealthy lifestyles, industrial waste, smoking, and environmental pollution**. They also highlight **late diagnosis, lack of preventive measures, and low health awareness** as factors contributing to delayed hospital visits and worsening outcomes.
Patients and their families at Sinar Hospital have urged the **Balochistan government** to establish a **modern cancer hospital in Quetta**, equipped with advanced facilities to provide timely and locally accessible treatment.
Medical professionals emphasize that **early diagnosis, effective healthcare services, public awareness, and healthy lifestyles** are essential to control the rising cancer cases. They stress that **prevention and awareness remain the strongest weapons against this deadly disease**.
