PTI Effectively Becomes Defunct After ECP Rejects Gohar Khan as Chairman; Security Tightened Around Adiala Jail

Islamabad:The Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) refusal to recognize Barrister Gohar Ali Khan as Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has effectively rendered the party *non-functional*, according to political observers.

PTI had already been out of the electoral process due to its de-registration status. While the government was not actively considering declaring PTI a banned outfit, the ECP’s refusal to acknowledge its leadership had been a major hurdle in imposing any formal restriction.

Highly reliable political and parliamentary sources revealed that independent Senators previously aligned with PTI have now been denied association with the party, reducing its presence in the Upper House to the **smallest parliamentary group**.

### **Unprecedented Security Measures at Adiala Jail**

Meanwhile, extraordinary security measures have been implemented around **Adiala Jail**, where the PTI founder is incarcerated. A large number of police personnel have been deployed starting Monday, with the possibility of further reinforcement if required. Officials have declined to disclose the exact number of deployed personnel.

Sources confirm that **Rangers contingents are also on standby** and can be moved to Adiala immediately to assist police forces.

A **three-layer security cordon** has been established around the jail, preventing any unauthorized person from passing the first checkpoint. Only individuals listed by jail authorities will be allowed further entry.

### **Medical Facilities and Restrictions for PTI Founder**

According to internal jail sources, the PTI founder continues to receive the same facilities as before. However, his request to summon a team of doctors from his private hospital in Lahore is unlikely to be approved.

Jail authorities have informed inmates that if medical attention is required, they may be examined **three times a day** by jail medical officers. Additionally, top doctors from Islamabad and Rawalpindi can be called in — but only upon the medical recommendation of the jail doctor.

This multi-layered security and administrative approach indicates heightened vigilance amid the political and legal uncertainty surrounding PTI’s current status.
