KarachiPakistan Rangers (Sindh), in coordination with the SIU Police, conducted a joint intelligence-based operation in Karachi’s District Central and City South areas, arresting seven members of extortion gangs linked to notorious crime figures Jamil Chhanga and Samad Kathiawari.
The arrested suspects include Parvez alias Powa, Asghar Ali, Shakeel Ahmed alias Comrade, Faizan alias Lamboo, and Muhammad Zubair alias Chhoto, who were apprehended in injured condition, along with Muhammad Sabir and Muhammad Umar alias Afshani Baloch. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from their possession.
According to details, the suspects were acting on the instructions of extortion mafia ringleaders Jamil Chhanga, Usama Jamil, and Abdul Samad Kathiawari. They were involved in issuing extortion slips to factory owners, shopkeepers, builders of under-construction projects, and restaurant owners. In cases of non-payment, they resorted to firing and spreading fear.
The suspects confessed to opening fire in October 2025 at a Jeddah Bar B Q fast-food outlet in Nazimabad after the owners refused to pay extortion money. CCTV footage of the incident clearly shows the involvement of the accused.
Investigations revealed that the extorted money was illegally transferred to the overseas-based ringleaders Jamil Chhanga, Samad Kathiawari, and Usama Jamil. The arrested individuals are habitual criminals, with multiple FIRs registered against them at various police stations in Karachi for extortion and attempted murder. Further investigation is ongoing.
