Shah Ghulam Qadir Appointed Leader of the Opposition in AJK Assembly

The Speaker of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has approved the appointment of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President **Shah Ghulam Qadir** as the new Leader of the Opposition.
Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar granted the approval under **Rule 17-A**, based on the majority vote, according to an official notification issued by the Secretariat of the Legislative Assembly.
The development comes after the recent successful no-confidence motion in AJK, which allowed the **Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)** to form the new government. Meanwhile, the PML-N decided to take its place on the opposition benches.
During the no-confidence vote against former Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq, the PML-N maintained that it would not join the government “under any circumstances,” despite voting in favor of the motion.
Earlier today, former AJK prime minister and senior PML-N leader **Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider** submitted a formal request to the Speaker’s chamber, seeking a change in the Opposition Leader.
Shah Ghulam Qadir replaces **Khawaja Farooq**, a senior parliamentarian from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who previously held the position of Leader of the Opposition in the AJK Assembly.
