Pakistan and Afghanistan Decide to Upgrade Diplomatic Relations

Islamabad: Pakistan and Afghanistan have decided to upgrade their diplomatic relations, with Pakistan promoting its chargé d’affaires in Kabul, Abdul Rahman Nizamani, to the rank of ambassador.
According to diplomatic sources, both countries will see their chargé d’affaires officially assume ambassadorial duties starting tomorrow. This significant step marks a new chapter in bilateral relations between the two neighboring nations.
Following the appointment of ambassadors, both embassies are also expected to see an increase in diplomatic staff. This development is aimed at strengthening ties and enhancing cooperation in key areas such as economy, security, counterterrorism, and trade.
The decision is expected to deepen collaboration between the two brotherly nations and contribute positively to people-to-people contact and expanded bilateral engagements.
In 2022, Pakistan had downgraded its diplomatic representation in Kabul after tensions emerged following the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan. At the time, Islamabad appointed a chargé d’affaires instead of an ambassador and reduced embassy staff.
This latest move signals a renewed commitment to diplomatic engagement and regional cooperation.
