PDMA Balochistan Launches Scientific Measures to Combat Drought, Plans Weather Generators

**Quetta (Daily Qudrat):** In response to severe drought in Balochistan, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has initiated inter-departmental coordination to install weather generators aimed at increasing rainfall in affected areas.

A meeting was held at the PDMA conference room, chaired by Director Planning & Coordination Naveed Ahmed Sheikh. Participants included Deputy Director PDMA Asghar Ali Jamali, Additional Director Livestock, Director Agriculture, SDO Irrigation Department, and other relevant officials.

Local authorities expressed concern over the extreme drought in the Makran and Rakhshan divisions, noting that insufficient rainfall since last year has severely affected agriculture, livestock production, and the livelihoods of residents.

The meeting reviewed the technical and operational aspects of weather generators and agreed to conduct a detailed presentation and field demonstration in a drought-affected area to evaluate the system’s effectiveness and feasibility before final approval of any contracts.

Naveed Ahmed Sheikh praised the cooperation of all departments and reaffirmed PDMA Balochistan’s commitment to environmental protection and innovative solutions. PDMA Relief Commissioner/Director General Jahanzeb Khan Ghorzai also appreciated the efforts of all participants and emphasized that collaborative, scientifically-based measures will continue to address the drought crisis.
