PkNAP and JUI Agree on Joint Strategy to Address Worsening Security Situation in Balochistan
Quetta: Senior leaders of the Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party (PkNAP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) have agreed to formulate a joint strategy to address the deteriorating law and order situation in Balochistan, expressing concern over what they described as growing insecurity and administrative failure across the province.
A high-level delegation of PkNAP, led by Senior Deputy Chairman Raza Muhammad Raza, met JUI Balochistan chief Maulana Abdul Wasey at his residence in Quetta. During the meeting, the two sides discussed the overall political, economic, and security situation in Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan and Pashtun-majority areas.
The leaders exchanged views on recent incidents of terrorism, targeted killings, the activities of armed groups, rising crime on national highways, alleged illegal land allotments, encroachments on public and tribal lands, and other issues affecting the province.
According to a joint statement, both parties expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation, stating that Balochistan, particularly its Pashtun areas, is facing an alarming rise in lawlessness, uncertainty, and administrative challenges. They alleged that the provincial government has failed to ensure public safety, maintain law and order, and uphold the writ of the state, leaving citizens vulnerable to criminal gangs, armed groups, and terrorist organizations.
The leaders also voiced concern over incidents reported during the past month in districts including Ziarat, Shahrag, Mangla, Qila Abdullah, Mezi Adda, Pishin, and other areas. They claimed that the movement of armed groups along key highways, including the Quetta–Khuzdar, Quetta–Karachi, Quetta–Taftan, Quetta–Loralai, Quetta–Zhob, and Quetta–Chaman routes, reflects a weakening of state authority.
The meeting emphasized that the current situation is not the concern of a single political party but a challenge affecting the entire province and future generations. The participants stressed the need for all democratic and political forces to rise above partisan interests and work together to promote peace, political stability, and the protection of public rights.
Both sides warned that failure to address the prevailing conditions could have serious political, social, and economic consequences. They agreed to intensify consultations with other political and democratic parties and to continue holding joint meetings aimed at developing a coordinated strategy for restoring peace, combating terrorism, protecting citizens, and resolving political issues in the province.
The meeting was attended by senior leaders from both parties. It concluded with a luncheon hosted by Maulana Abdul Wasey, during which both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining political cooperation and continued dialogue on issues facing Balochistan.
