Lahore Declared World’s Most Polluted City as Pakistan Tops Global Air Pollution Index

LAHORE: Pakistan has surpassed all other countries to become the **most polluted nation in the world**, with **Lahore** emerging as the **most polluted city**, according to the latest global air quality rankings.
Environmental monitoring experts reported that Lahore’s **average Air Quality Index (AQI)** reached **304**, a level considered **hazardous to human health**.
Similarly, severe air pollution levels were recorded in **Delhi, India**, and **Faisalabad, Pakistan**, where AQI readings climbed as high as **221**. Experts warn that an AQI above **302** poses extreme health risks, increasing the chances of **respiratory and cardiovascular diseases**.
According to environmental specialists, the primary causes of rising pollution include **crop residue burning**, **vehicle emissions**, and **industrial discharge**, with forecasts suggesting that air quality may deteriorate further in the coming days.
Citizens have been **advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities** and **wear protective masks** when outside.
Meanwhile, the **Environment Protection Department** has intensified its operations against pollution sources, while the **Lahore district administration** and **Transport Department** have launched a crackdown on **smoke-emitting vehicles** across the city.
