FBR Rejects Immediate Proposal to Reduce Tax on Imported Mobile Phones

**Islamabad (Qudrat Daily):**
No progress has been made regarding the proposed **reduction in taxes on imported mobile phones**, as the **Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)** has rejected the proposal for immediate relief.

According to sources cited by **SAMAA TV**, the Ministry of IT and the **Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA)** have so far failed to address a key demand of telecom operators regarding **tax cuts on imported mobile devices**. The **5G spectrum auction policy** also did not include any clear assurance related to mobile phone taxation.

Telecom operators have requested **tax reductions** to address shortages of 5G-compatible mobile phones, a move that was recommended by both the Ministry of IT and PTA. However, the FBR rejected the proposal, citing concerns that reducing taxes could **negatively impact overall revenue collection targets**.

Sources added that the FBR remains committed to reviewing mobile phone taxation in the **upcoming budget**, rather than granting immediate relief.
