Sharjeel Memon Alleges Attempt to Create May 9–Like Disorder During Suhail Afridi’s Karachi Visit

Karachi: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has alleged that an attempt was made to create chaos similar to the May 9 incidents during the recent Karachi visit of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Suhail Afridi.
Addressing a press conference, Sharjeel Memon said that prior to the visit, authorities had received information about potential security threats and had prepared a comprehensive security plan. However, he claimed that agreed routes and designated locations were violated during the visit.
He alleged that incidents of stone-pelting on police, damage to media vehicles, and mistreatment of journalists were also reported during the unrest. According to him, the security situation was exploited to deliberately create disorder.
The Sindh minister stated that despite these developments, the Sindh government exercised restraint and did not register any FIR against any political leader. He also criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, saying that accusations of being stopped or delayed in traffic by the Sindh government were baseless and served no purpose.
Sharjeel Memon further said that the respect extended to Suhail Afridi during the visit was not reciprocated and that the Sindh government’s goodwill was taken advantage of.
The incident has sparked political debate and may contribute to tensions between the two provinces, with political circles discussing whether such visits could lead to further controversies in the future.
