Indian Players Share Edited Trophy Photos After Asia Cup Controversy

Dubai: After refusing to accept the official Asia Cup trophy, Indian cricketers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill have drawn criticism for posting **edited images** on social media showing themselves with a trophy.

The posts quickly sparked backlash from cricket fans, who questioned the need for “fake celebrations” when the team had not received the original trophy due to its standoff with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). “When the real trophy wasn’t given, what’s the point of creating imaginary photos?” one user commented.

The controversy stems from India’s refusal to accept the trophy from ACC President Mohsin Naqvi following their Asia Cup T20 final win over Pakistan in Dubai. Despite repeated announcements, the Indian team remained adamant and declined to take the trophy from anyone else either.

As a result, the final ceremony ended without the traditional trophy presentation. The ACC later confirmed that the cup was taken back from the venue after the BCCI formally notified them that the Indian team would not be receiving it.

Cricket followers on both sides of the border have described India’s stance as **unsportsmanlike and politically driven**, overshadowing what should have been a celebratory moment.
