Dangerous Monsoon Spell Expected in Karachi Today, Over 100mm Rain Forecast

Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Karachi today, with the possibility of more than 100 millimeters of rain in some areas. The system may bring 4 to 6 spells of intense showers, raising the risk of urban flooding.
Meteorologists said the unusual weather system is entering Sindh from India in the form of a depression or deep depression. Due to its unclear and complex trajectory, the intensity of rain may vary across different parts of the city.
Authorities have expressed concern over potential urban flooding, especially after flash flooding occurred in Malir River yesterday, which had remained dry for years.
In light of the situation, Jinnah Sindh Medical University has postponed all examinations scheduled for today and shifted to online classes under a work-from-home policy. The vice chancellor stated that the decision was made to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Since yesterday, intermittent light and heavy rainfall has been reported in the city, causing waterlogging in low-lying areas.
The PMD and district administration have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from electric poles, exposed wires, and flooded areas. Citizens are advised to immediately contact rescue services in case of emergencies.
