Heavy Monsoon Rains Expected Across Pakistan, Urban Flooding Alert Issued

KARACHI:The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a significant **intensification in monsoon activity** across the country starting today. Widespread **heavy rainfall** is expected in **Karachi, Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, and Kashmir**, potentially leading to **urban flooding and landslides** in vulnerable areas.
### Light Rain in Karachi, Heavy Showers Forecast:
Parts of **Karachi** experienced **light drizzle** overnight, and more rain is expected throughout the day. The PMD has advised residents to remain cautious due to the potential for **traffic disruptions** and **water accumulation** in low-lying areas.
### Cloudburst Risk in Northern Regions:
The weather department warns of possible **cloudbursts** in **Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Jhelum, Chakwal**, and **Attock**, where heavy downpours could trigger flash floods.
### Rainfall to Continue in Sindh and Balochistan:
**Heavy rain** is also forecast for **Sindh and Balochistan** until **August 22**, with concerns over flooding in already saturated regions.
### Rising River Levels:
* **Moderate-level flooding** is being reported at **Tarbela, Kalabagh, Chashma**, and **Taunsa barrages** along the **Indus River**.
* **Low-level flooding** continues at **Guddu Barrage**.
* The **Sutlej River** is also witnessing **low-level flooding** at **Head Sulemanki** and **Ganda Singh Wala**, according to the **Flood Forecasting Division Lahore**.
Authorities have been placed on **high alert**, and the public is urged to take **precautionary measures**, especially in flood-prone areas.
