Zulfiqar Bhutto Jr. and Fatima Bhutto to Launch New Political Party, Reject PPP and Establishment

Karachi: Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Jr., grandson of former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, has announced the formation of a new political party alongside his sister Fatima Bhutto, firmly distancing themselves from the current Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which he claims has been hijacked by the “Zardari League” and serves establishment interests.
Speaking at a press conference at his residence in 70 Clifton, Karachi, Zulfiqar Bhutto Jr. said:
“I have no support from the establishment. I am trying to build myself independently. My sister Fatima Bhutto is joining me, and together we will formally announce our new political party.”
Key Highlights from Bhutto Jr.’s Press Conference:
Rejection of PPP:
“This is not the PPP of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto or Shaheed Mir Murtaza Bhutto. The party has been hijacked. We completely reject the Zardari League and will never work with this PPP.”
Electoral Ambition:
He confirmed his intention to contest elections from Lyari, expressing concern over the area’s neglected condition and highlighting issues such as the sealing of 150 buildings and lack of housing for victims of the Baghdadi incident.
Party Vision and Ideology:
“We are reviving the PPP’s original values of equality and public development — not vanity projects like Bhutto Avenue in Karachi, which is a slap in the face to the people of Lyari.”
No Establishment Ties:
Bhutto Jr. denied any links with the establishment, calling it “a lie” and reminded the media that the establishment had historically wronged their family.
“We are creating something truly independent. Our youth wing will be strong and nationwide.”
Criticism of Current Leadership:
He criticized both the PPP’s provincial government and federal authorities for failing the people of Lyari and other underprivileged regions.
“Development in Pakistan is done on people, not for people. Both the Zardari League and PTI came to power and looted.”
Support for Oppressed Regions:
Zulfiqar Bhutto Jr. also condemned human rights violations in Balochistan and the political detentions in Gilgit-Baltistan, adding that his movement supports a single sovereign Palestine and not a two-state solution.
Position on Youth and Systemic Change:
He emphasized that Pakistan needs systemic reform and vowed to mobilize the youth for a movement to challenge elite-driven politics.
“We are not against any ethnicity or party, we are against the corrupt and rigged system.”
Future Plans:
Zulfiqar Bhutto Jr. announced that the new party’s name is under consideration, and they will begin touring all provinces to build a national presence rooted in the original Bhutto philosophy of social justice, independence, and people-centric governance.
He concluded:
“The PPP has died. If this continues, it has no future. We will reclaim the Bhutto legacy, not by name, but through action.”
