Government Failure to Protect Religious Scholars Alarming, Culprits Must Be Punished: Maulana Abdul Waseh

Quetta: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan leaders have strongly condemned the killing of prominent religious scholar and preacher Sheikh Maulana Muhammad Idrees, calling it a grave failure of the state to ensure the safety of religious figures.
According to details, protest gatherings and condolence reference meetings were held across Balochistan, including Quetta, Pishin, Chaman, Zhob, Khuzdar, and Gwadar, where scholars paid tribute to the late cleric’s religious and scholarly services. Participants also demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for his killing.
Provincial leader and senator Maulana Abdul Waseh said that the martyrdom of Maulana Muhammad Idrees has deprived the Muslim world of a great religious personality. He stated that religious scholars in Pakistan have rendered immense sacrifices, yet the government has failed to provide them adequate protection.
He further added that even the leadership of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam has faced multiple attacks in the past, highlighting what he described as serious security lapses and weakening state authority.
Party leaders said that recent statements by JUI-F leadership reflect the anger of party workers but emphasize a peaceful response, while also pointing to the state’s inability to maintain law and order.
They demanded that the killers be brought to justice without delay and called for immediate measures to ensure the protection of religious seminaries and scholars across the country.
