Hamid Mir Urges Pakistan to Stay Cautious of Trump and Safeguard Nuclear Program

Lahore: Senior Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir has cautioned Pakistan to remain vigilant against Donald Trump and to ensure the protection of its nuclear program at all costs. He stated that Trump, being a close ally of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, cannot be considered a friend of Pakistan.
Speaking on a private TV channel, Geo News, Mir emphasized the importance of maintaining security in the face of global power dynamics. He criticized the joint diplomatic efforts of Israel and the United States, accusing them of using diplomacy as a “weapon of war.” According to Mir, they not only deceived Iran but misled the entire world, with Iran falling victim to a false sense of security.
Mir pointed out that Israel’s attack on Iran was conducted under the guise of negotiations that took place in Muscat, Oman, on June 15. During these talks, Iran’s political and military leadership was under the impression that Israel would refrain from military action. However, he argued, Israel used this time to strike Iran, causing significant damage.
He further highlighted that Trump’s role was no different. On June 19 and 20, Trump announced that the United States would give diplomacy two weeks before taking any military action. However, just a day after the announcement, the U.S. launched an attack on Iran. According to Mir, this action further reinforced the deceitful nature of the U.S.-Israel alliance.
Mir cautioned that Trump and Netanyahu’s close relationship should not be overlooked, urging Pakistan to focus on safeguarding its nuclear program rather than seeking to mediate between Iran and the U.S. He stated, “Trump is supporting Netanyahu, and Netanyahu is supporting Trump; therefore, Pakistan must stay cautious and secure its nuclear assets.”

In a tweet, Mir reiterated his stance, warning that Pakistan should not place trust in Trump. He stressed that Trump, by virtue of his alliance with Netanyahu, cannot be trusted and will never be a true ally of Pakistan. Mir concluded by urging the government to remain alert and prioritize the nation’s defense and strategic interests.
