Karachi Court Rejects Bail Pleas in Case of Assault on Woman

Karachi: A judicial magistrate in Karachi has rejected the bail applications of two men accused of breaking into a woman’s home, stripping her partially, and assaulting her.

The decision was announced by Judicial Magistrate West, Judge Inamullah Phulpoto, who dismissed the bail pleas of the accused, Shahin and Yousuf. The court stated that medical reports confirmed the woman had been subjected to violence, while torn clothes recovered by police corroborated her account.

*“This is not an ordinary dispute but an attack on the dignity of a woman,”* the judgment read. The court further observed that if bail were granted, the accused could intimidate the victim into silence.

The ruling also cited data from the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, noting that 70% of women withdraw their complaints due to fear. *“The complainant has shown her wounds; it is now the court’s responsibility to ensure justice. The strength of a nation is not measured by wealth but by the respect it accords to women,”* the verdict stated.

According to the case details, the incident began when the complainant objected to inappropriate conduct by the accused Shahin at her doorstep. In retaliation, Shahin, along with others, allegedly stormed her house and assaulted her.

Defense counsel argued that the case had been fabricated. However, the prosecution confirmed that the FIR had been registered at Docks Police Station under court orders, and evidence supported the complainant’s claims.
