Efforts to Strengthen Social Protection System and Improve Education in Balochistan: Haji Wali Mohammad Noorzai

Quetta : Member of the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan and Parliamentary Secretary for Social Welfare, Haji Wali Mohammad Noorzai, emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the social protection system in Balochistan. He stated that key initiatives have been introduced to improve the education system, modernize disaster management, and support vulnerable communities across the province.
Speaking at the Second National Social Protection Conference in Karachi, Noorzai outlined the challenges Balochistan faces due to its unique geographical and social issues, such as higher poverty rates compared to other provinces and limited access to education and health services in remote areas. He highlighted the difficulty many people face in accessing social protection benefits due to daily wage labor.
He also discussed the negative impact of natural disasters, including droughts, floods, and climate change, on agriculture and livestock economies, exacerbating the difficulties faced by local communities. Despite these challenges, Noorzai noted that the Balochistan government has prioritized social protection through various programs aimed at helping the most vulnerable, such as financial assistance for disabled individuals, widows, orphans, and destitute women.
Noorzai further explained that through programs like the Ehsaas Program and Benazir Income Support Program, the government is providing special priority to the underprivileged segments of Balochistan, offering them opportunities to improve their lives through financial aid.
Additionally, the government has planned vocational training centers for youth and women to enhance their skills and create better job opportunities. Special business loan schemes have been introduced for women to help them become financially independent by starting their own businesses.
To improve education in Balochistan, efforts are being made to enhance school conditions, provide teacher training, and ensure access to basic health services. Mobile health units and telemedicine facilities are being introduced in remote areas to offer accessible healthcare.
Noorzai also mentioned that the disaster management system in Balochistan is being modernized to provide timely aid during natural disasters and minimize the damage caused to communities. Subsidy and financial support programs are being introduced for farmers and small businesses to help them recover from the effects of natural calamities.
He made key recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of social protection systems in Pakistan, including the need for better coordination between provincial and federal governments to ensure equal access to resources and opportunities across all provinces. He also emphasized the importance of using digital systems to identify beneficiaries accurately and deliver aid transparently.
Noorzai concluded by stressing the need for an increase in the social protection budget to reach more individuals and ensure the successful implementation of welfare programs. He reiterated the Balochistan government’s commitment to improving social protection, providing equal opportunities for all citizens, and creating a strong, integrated welfare system that benefits everyone in the province.
