Severe Water Crisis Hits Hub City, Citizens Threaten Protests Amid Prolonged Shortage

Hub:The water crisis in Hub city has intensified, leaving residents desperate for even a drop of water. While industrial zones and the Gaddani Jail are receiving water through emergency measures, the main source for the city’s population—the Lasbela Canal—has been blocked, turning it into a resting place for stray dogs. Meanwhile, public water supply tanks have dried up, forcing residents to buy expensive water from the tanker mafia.

According to locals, Hub city has been deprived of water supply for over a month. In contrast, industrial sectors received immediate attention from higher authorities, who ordered the canal to be dammed to fill the Lasbela Industrial Development Authority (LIDA) reservoirs. Additionally, on the orders of the Provincial Director Ombudsman, water is being supplied to Gaddani Jail via underground pipelines from Attock Gate.

However, citizens of Hub have been entirely neglected. Their only natural water source—the canal—remains dry, and public water tanks, such as the one near the Boys High School, are empty. The water shortage has become so severe that households and even mosques are without water, especially affecting daily activities such as cooking, cleaning, and religious ablutions.

Residents have raised concerns that their share of water from the Hub Dam is being unjustly diverted. They demand equitable water distribution, suggesting that the Lasbela Canal should operate under a weekly rotation—three days for industries and four for the city’s residential areas.

With soaring summer temperatures and Eid-ul-Adha approaching, the crisis is becoming unbearable. Locals have warned that if the water supply is not restored promptly, they will be forced to stage protests against the district administration and relevant government departments. Citizens hold the authorities responsible for the dire situation and call for urgent intervention to prevent further public unrest.
