Quetta Deputy Commissioner Warns of Looming Crisis Due to Road Closures Affecting Trade and Essential Supplies

Quetta:Quetta’s Deputy Commissioner, Saad Bin Asad, expressed grave concerns over the deteriorating situation in the city, highlighting that the ongoing road closures in and around Quetta have severely impacted commercial transportation and the delivery of essential goods. In a press briefing, he emphasized that if the current situation continues, there could be a serious shortage of food, medicine, fuel, and other basic necessities, leading to an unbearable crisis for the general public.
The President of the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) also spoke at the press conference, pointing out that Balochistan’s economy is already facing multiple challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, limited investment, and political instability. The closure of major highways has paralyzed local businesses and eroded the confidence of external investors. He called on both the federal and provincial governments to take immediate and effective action to reopen the blocked roads and ensure the continuity of commercial and economic activities.
Other speakers at the press conference echoed these concerns, noting that while protesting is a democratic right, it should not be done in a manner that disrupts the daily lives of ordinary citizens. Such actions, they said, not only hurt the economy but could also destabilize the entire social and economic system. They appealed to all political and social organizations to act responsibly and choose protest methods that do not harm the public interest.
Senior business leaders, civil society representatives, and officials from various relevant institutions also addressed the press conference, shedding light on the dire situation caused by the road blockages in Balochistan. Their goal was to raise awareness and draw the attention of the government and the public to the severity of the issue.
At the conclusion of the press briefing, all stakeholders agreed that overcoming the current crisis requires unified efforts from all sectors. The government, business community, civil society, and the general public must work together with mutual consultation, patience, and strategic planning to pave the way for peace, development, and prosperity in Balochistan.
In a related development, Deputy Commissioner Quetta, Lieutenant (Retd.) Saad Bin Asad, held a meeting with the President of the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mohammad Ayub, and other representatives of the business community. The meeting aimed to consult on the challenges facing the city and address the concerns of the trading community.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on key issues such as business activity challenges, infrastructure improvements, cleanliness, traffic management, facilities in markets, security matters, and other pressing concerns. The business leaders presented several important suggestions aimed at improving commercial and economic activities in the city.
Deputy Commissioner Saad Bin Asad assured the business community that the district administration is fully committed to addressing the issues faced by the traders and providing them with the necessary facilities. He acknowledged the crucial role of the business community in the city’s development and emphasized that resolving their concerns is a top priority for the district government.
