President Zardari Vows to Defend Pakistan’s Water Rights, Praises Armed Forces for Operation Bunyān Mursūṣ Victory

Islamabad:President Asif Ali Zardari has declared that Pakistan will utilize all elements of national power to safeguard its water rights, firmly rejecting India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. His statement came on the occasion of *Youm-e-Tashakur* (Day of Gratitude), observed in celebration of Pakistan’s decisive military success against Indian aggression during Operation *Bunyān Mursūṣ*.
In his official message, President Zardari hailed the operation as a symbol of national unity and military excellence. “This victory is not only of our brave armed forces, but of the entire Pakistani nation. The people stood like a reinforced wall — a *bunyān mursūṣ* — against the enemy’s aggression,” he stated.
President Zardari extended his heartfelt salute to the soldiers and commanders who led the operation and paid tribute to those who laid down their lives in defense of the motherland. He emphasized that Pakistan responded to Indian provocation with professionalism and strength, earning international recognition for its restraint and operational capabilities.
“Pakistan is a peace-loving country with no aggressive intentions,” he said. “However, we will never compromise on our sovereignty or territorial integrity. Any act of aggression against our soil will be met with a resolute and powerful response.”
Addressing the recent controversy surrounding the Indus Waters Treaty, the president categorically rejected India’s attempt to suspend the agreement unilaterally. “There is no clause in the treaty that permits such one-sided action. Pakistan will employ every available means — diplomatic, legal, and strategic — to protect its water rights,” he asserted.
The president’s remarks come days after Pakistan’s military shot down five Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale aircraft, during the night of May 6–7 in retaliation to Indian hostilities. On May 10, Pakistan delivered a retaliatory strike that reportedly shocked Indian defense circles and drew international attention, even from within India itself.
President Zardari reaffirmed that the nation stands shoulder to shoulder with its armed forces and will continue to uphold the country’s sovereignty with unwavering resolve.
