Karachi Imposes Two-Month Ban on Rickshaws on Key Roads to Tackle Traffic Chaos

Karachi:In a bid to control the growing traffic congestion and the uncontrolled presence of rickshaws on Karachi’s streets, a major decision has been taken to restrict the movement of **One Plus Two** and **One Plus Four** motorcabs on **11 major roads** in the city. The ban, enforced at the recommendation of the **Traffic Police**, came into effect on **April 15** and will remain in place until **June 14**.

As per the orders issued under **Section 144 of the CrPC** (Criminal Procedure Code) on the request of **DIG Traffic**, several key roads such as **Shahra-e-Faisal**, **I.I. Chundrigar Road**, **Shaheed Millat Road**, **Stadium Road**, and areas near **Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s Shrine** have now been designated as **No-Go Areas** for rickshaws.

The administration emphasized that these **self-created routes** for rickshaws, which often operated without any permission, were not only contributing to traffic jams but also increasing the risk of accidents on the busy roads.

**Karachi Commissioner** has clarified that both the traffic police and local police stations have been granted full authority to take action against violators. Legal action under **Section 188 of the PPC (Pakistan Penal Code)** will be taken against those found breaching the newly imposed restrictions.

This decision is aimed at improving the city’s traffic management and ensuring the safety of commuters by reducing the chaos caused by the unchecked movement of rickshaws on critical roads.
